Music ‑ Voice

Train your voice. Become something more.

Study Voice at app and build the technique, confidence, and versatility to take your singing anywhere. Through one-on-one training, real performance experience, and a supportive community, you’ll grow into a skilled, flexible performer, ready for the future you choose to invent.

At app, studying voice is about more than learning how to sing. It’s about building the technique, confidence, and versatility to take your voice wherever you want it to go.

You’ll train in a supportive, collaborative environment where you’re encouraged to explore, grow, and discover what you’re capable of, not just as a singer, but as a communicator.

Why study Voice at Dal?

Perform early and often.
At Dal, you don’t wait until graduate school for performance opportunities.

Our program offers one of the only undergraduate opera experiences in the Maritimes, giving you real hands-on experience throughout your degree.

Build a voice that can do it all
We train singers with a strong classical foundation, so you can move across styles with confidence.

Intimidated by Opera but love musical theatre, jazz or contemporary music?
At app’s Fountain School of Performing Arts you won’t be boxed into one path. Surrounded by the school’s diverse music and theatre programs, you’ll graduate with the tools to adapt, explore, and perform across genres.

Your career goals and favourite styles to sing might change from 1st year to 4th, but the classical foundation you receive will always serve your versatile voice.

Sing everyday, with purpose
You’ll work closely with faculty every week through:

  • Individual “applied voice” lessons (one-on-one training)
  • Vocal coaching with collaborative pianists
  • Studio classes and masterclasses with fellow students and guest artists

This kind of personalized attention means you’re constantly growing, refining, and gaining confidence.

Learn by doing
The singing program at Dal Music is truly multi-disciplinary and deeply collaborative. You’ll bring together:

  • Singing
  • Acting and storytelling
  • Language and diction
  • Ensemble work

Whether you’re in an opera production or ensemble, or doing prep work in your dorm room, you’re learning how to be a complete performer, not just a singer.

Discover your direction

You don’t need to have everything figured out when you arrive.

Many students start app’s Music undergraduate degree with different backgrounds and interests. Over four years, you’ll challenge yourself, explore new styles, and graduate with a much clearer sense of the future you want to invent, and how to get there. Many Dal students decide to combine a music major with another passion, like law or medicine.

Where can your voice take you?
A degree in voice builds more than performance skills. You’ll graduate with:

  • Strong communication and storytelling abilities
  • Confidence under pressure
  • Collaboration and creative problem-solving skills

Whether you pursue a career in performance, or take your skills into other fields, you’ll stand out from the crowd, and a pile full of resumes.
