Located within the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, the School of Planning provides accredited education for future planners from Canada, the United States, and around the world. Our programs鈥攖he Bachelor of Community Design (BCD)聽and the Master of Planning鈥攁re accredited by the Canadian Professional Standards Board. Graduates are eligible to pursue professional certification and membership in both the Canadian Institute of Planners and the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Our faculty are leaders in advancing planning knowledge, practice and research. Areas of expertise include land use, policy and planning, environment and climate change, equity, health and well-being, housing and urban design, and transportation planning. Through teaching, research, and community engagement, we prepare students to shape sustainable, inclusive and resilient communities.
The School is situated in O'Brien Hall which is located on Morris Street in the heart of Halifax鈥攖he largest city in Atlantic Canada. Halifax is a vibrant port city with a growing population of over 500,000, renowned for its natural beauty and rich history dating back to 1749. As the region鈥檚 academic, cultural, and economic hub, Halifax offers an inspiring setting for planning education.
