Congratulations to Andrew French (Biomedical Engineering Medicine) upon receiving an honorary doctorate (Filosofian tohtori honoris causa) from the University of Oulu, Finland.听 Doctoral conferment ceremonies are held at five-year intervals in Finland.听 Academic dress is a black tailcoat, and doctoral degree recipients receive a doctoral hat and sword (so, watch your step around 鈥淪ir鈥 Andrew!).

Congratulations to Dr. Stan Kutcher and the Sun Life Financial Chair in Adolescent Mental Health Team (Psychiatry) whose won silver at the Web Health Awards and a Gemstone Award of Excellence in Web Communications.听The Web Health Awards recognizes the best Web-based health-related content for consumers and professionals.听The Atlantic Gemstone Awards recognizes those who demonstrate innovation and creativity in communications.听

Congratulations to Susan Mansour (Pharmacy) and Anne Godden Webster (Health Professions, Deans鈥 Office) upon being presented with Ambassador awards by Destination Halifax for their efforts in bringing the Collaborating Across Borders (CAB II) Conference to Halifax.听The Conference was hosted by the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Professions and the Health Law Institute, and attracted听more than听400 participants from around the world.

Congratulations to Emily Murray (student, Health & Human Performance) for winning Best Poster, entitled, 鈥淓xamining the impact of a cancer retreat on the lives on young adult cancer survivors,鈥 at the Meeting at the Crossroads:听Student Research in Health Conference.听 Crossroads is a scientific conference dedicated to student presentations on research related to any and all aspects of health.听The conference is organized for students by the graduate students of 海角社区app University鈥檚 School of Health and Human Performance. Congratulations to Kendra Sauerteig (student, Biology) upon winning the Canadian Botanical Association鈥檚 Regional Undergraduate Award for her oral presentation, entitled, 鈥淎ctin microfilament dynamics and programmed cell death in the lace plant (Aponogeton madagascariensis),鈥 at the Atlantic Undergraduate Biology Conference held in March at the Agricultural College in Truro. Ms. Sauerteig also won second place for her oral presentation, entitled 鈥淭racking actin microfilament dynamics during programmed cell death in the lace plant (Aponogeton madagascariensis),鈥 at the 16th annual Northeastern Biological Graduate Student Conference (NBGSC) also held in March at Saint Mary鈥檚 University.听 (Supervisor:听 Arunika Gunawardena)

Congratulations to Shirley Tillotson (History) whose book, Contributing Citizens:听Modern charitable fundraising and the making of the welfare state, was shortlisted for the Canadian Historical Association鈥檚 Sir John A. Macdonald prize for the best book in Canadian History of 2008.听Unfortunately (or fortunately, according to her) Shirley didn鈥檛 win the prize 鈥 it went to an excellent book written by one of her graduate school profs 鈥 the acorn doesn鈥檛 fall far from the tree Shirley!

Congratulations to Anita Unruh (Health Professions) for receiving the Purdue Pharma/Canadian Pain Society鈥檚 award for Excellence in Interprofessional Pain Education.听 This award is given annually to a CPS member who has demonstrated excellence in interprofessional pain education (IPE) in an accredited university setting, a community hospital setting or in a setting with various community healthcare professionals.听This award is consistent with the CPS initiative to foster and enhance IPE and pain awareness across the country (but this Kudos does not hurt at all!).

Congratulations to Harrison Wright (PhD student, Biology) whose micrograph was selected for the cover image of American Journal of Botany May 2009 issue (see ).听 In addition, Mr. Wright鈥檚 video, 鈥淒ying to Live:听 programmed cell death in lace plant cells,鈥 has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the ChloroFilms video contest, May 2009.
