Information Session: 2026-2027 Competitive Mooting

First and second-year Schulich Law students interested in learning more about competitive mooting are invited to an information session with Associate Professor Liam McHugh-Russell.

The session, which students can attend in person or virtually, will provide an overview of the law school's competitive moot program, describe the individual moots offered in the 2026-2027 academic year, and explain the criteria, processes, and timelines for moot team selection.

The selection process for moot teams is somewhat complicated and takes place in May, between the release of winter marks and the beginning of course registration.

To become a member of a team for a competitive moot, a student will need to:

Apply for the individual moot;
Send in a centralized preference form;
Be ranked by the coaches;
Be matched to a moot team by the moot committee;
If chosen for a moot team, students are given approval to register in the course for the corresponding moot.

Given these complexities, anyone who hopes to participate in a competitive moot next year or who is curious about competitive moots is strongly encouraged to attend.

Join us to learn about applying for the 2026 cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars. This one-hour information session includes a short presentation, followed by time for a Q&A with a McCall MacBain Scholarship representative and a student finalist.

As a McCall MacBain Scholar, you will connect with mentors, develop your leadership skills, and receive full funding to start a master's or professional degree at McGill University.

The scholarship covers all tuition and fees, plus a living stipend of $2,300 per month during academic terms, summer funding options, and a relocation grant.

The ��app Journal of Legal Studies invites members of the Schulich Law community to its 14th annual Think Tank event.

The Think Tank is designed to showcase law students’ academic work, giving them a chance to present publicly, and to get feedback on their papers from an academic panel that may help guide the direction of their research.

The student with the winning presentation receives a $300 cash prize and the opportunity to publish their research in the next volume of the journal; each runner-up receives $200.

This year's presenters will be announced in late March.
