The 50th Annual Athletic Awards Banquet for the Campus was held on March 28, 2014. During the evening, both Win Langille and Ken Marchant were honored .
Win as Chemistry Professor and before a formal athletic department was developed, coached many NSAC teams in the local sport leagues. Later as Department Head, he supported the programs and athletes and was recognized in the naming of the Athletic Centre as the Langille Athletic Centre.
Ken was hired as the first Athletic Director in 1964 by Dr. Bill Jenkins, Principal, who saw the advantage of physical activity for all students and teams for those with exceptional sport skill. Ken built the department , starting first by coaching many of the teams himself and then by hiring local experts to take over the leadership of various sports. He continued to coach hockey for many years and soccer until his retirement in 1994. His on campus leadership also included the design concepts for the Athletic Centre in a course taken during his sabbatical leave to obtain a Masters Degree. When back with the Masters Degree in hand and with the support of Dr. Herb MacRae, Principal , the concepts became reality under his direction when the Centre opened in 1977.
In addition to Campus contribution, Marchant was also a founding member of both the regional and national sport organizations - Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association.
DAL AC Athletics have a strong foundation and history, largely because of the contribution and leadership of these gentlemen
